Laboratory Technicians from across the state gathered at GSSC this week for a day of professional networking and learning.

Around 30 lab techs were onsite Wednesday to take part in a session led by Yarra Ranges Tech School to learn more about renewable energy and sustainable equipment. This included a demonstration and hands-on-learning activity using sustainable housing kits and equipment donated to GSSC by Yarra Ranges Tech School through a grant. This equipment is currently being used by our Year 10 Physics students who are developing an understanding around energy efficiency in house design, concepts of heat absorption, conduction and reflection and design and modelling using digital simulation.

The demonstration and activity was also provided to our Science teachers as part of staff’s Professional Learning Day held on Thursday.

Many thanks to the Laboratory Technician’s Association of Victoria (LTAV) for making this networking and learning day possible and to Yarra Ranges Tech School for hosting the activities and sharing their skills, knowledge and equipment.

LTAV is a professional association for all laboratory technicians in schools and tertiary institutions in Victoria. The association provides a forum where lab techs from across the state can exchange ideas, find out about new developments and in industry and education, learn new skills and solve practical problems.

Yarra Ranges Tech School is part of the Victorian Government's commitment to make Victoria the 'Education State'. We introduce teachers to new pedagogies and ways to bring technology into the classroom by emphasising critical Enterprise skills in addition to Science, Technology, Engineering, Arts and Mathematics (STEAM) skills required for the 21st century.
