On Saturday 9 March, after the success of our first year, GSSC hosted eSports Day 2024. The aim of the event was to introduce students to an aspect of social gaming that has slowly diminished with the increased ability to connect online, and all who attended were very happy with the results of providing that experience. It also provided the opportunity for those students who are displaying high levels of skills in their gaming a chance to prove their abilities against others in a live environment. We had such great feedback from the first day that we were definitely going to keep running them!

Competitors came to set up in our Enterprise Building from 10am in the morning and planned out the tournaments they wanted to be involved in. Participants were excited to sign up for different tournaments and chatting to others who they may already know or had met for the first time due to their shared interest. Alongside our computer-based gaming we also had a board game and card game table set up by Cris Campanella for those who wanted a break from the screens throughout the day.

Our event runners, Justin and Brandon, as well as the team of volunteers Adam Fox, Brandon Stoll, Chris Harris, Cris Campanella, Robert Steer, Keegan Lambert and Bernie Brennan helped make sure our second year went off without an issue and were busy making sure the kids got the best possible experience out of it. It’s such a privilege to have the support and the opportunity to run these events, and I would love to see our team being able to support more days like this.

We gave out a huge range of prizes thanks to JB Hi-Fi and their generous donations. Our tournament winners were:
